My Parisian Escape vs. Disruptive Companies

Updated: Jan 3

Well, here I am, and I have done something.

The opportunity presented itself, and I took it! It was NOW or NEVER!

It appeared that it was all part of God's plan as I arrived here on the day of the first snowfall of the season.

I am excited to share that I am back in Paris, my Parisian escape. This time, it will be for 36 days! No work, no distractions. This trip is my 3rd time visiting beautiful Paris, except for a much more extended period. It was important to me to have the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture, learn the language, and contemplate this city as if I were to live here. Being here is a journey to find inspiration and do something radical, a radical change in my own terms.

Change is inevitable, so why not seize the reins of my life one more time and "disrupt" it? This inspired me to question why we are so eager to join companies "disrupting" industries yet so hesitant to embrace disruption in our own lives. Yet, I have found in my life's journey that making change is easier for me than for most people I know. I am willing to make change happen and sometimes even take very high risks into it. However, I acknowledge that it can feel scary; the fear of the unknown is always present, but I endured the moment and persevered toward the end goal. As long as these changes are morally and ethically correct, then, as one of my friends says, "the world is our oyster."

When change is inevitable

Nowadays, various companies market themselves as "disruptors" because they are forging radical changes within their organization that are important to them, such as a product, a process, etc. It is marketed everywhere, even in its mission statements. These companies are so proud of disrupting industries that they even attract potential hires thrilled to be part of this environment, but something got me thinking:

It's intriguing, isn't it? We're quick to embrace 'disruption' in our industries, but what about our personal lives?

Personal "disruption" can be achieved by taking risks, making changes, and breaking out of the comfort zone. We are so enthused to join companies that are "disrupting" products and industries. But what about us as individuals? Are we willing to "disrupt"/change our lives for growth, adventure, health, and goals? It makes me wonder how we can support a company that is disrupting the industry when we cannot create positive radical change in our personal lives.

We tend to focus so much on the discomfort caused by change that we forget its benefits. Disruption( if done well- more on that in another post) will cause positive growth, happiness, opportunities, and a more fulfilling life. We forget that on the other side of our change/disruption, there is innovation, something new and better for your life.

Overcoming the fear of failure is one of the obstacles in our minds that we must overcome, and it requires courage. But maybe it is not either/or, but maybe, just maybe, change is about stepping into it while being afraid and having the courage to make change happen.

Finally, I know it is human nature to yearn for safety and comfort; we need those seasons. I need those seasons too, but sometimes, when we start feeling stagnant, safety and comfort become the very chains to the future we desire. As we approach the holiday season, take some time to reflect and ask yourself the following questions:

Call to Action:

  • How does this season align with your future self, desires, goals, and overall health?

  • Do you need to make radical change happen?

  • Why do you need this change?

  • Set a goal for the New Year 2025!

À bientôt !
